Choosing a Payment Gateway

The first step to accept orders on your WooCommerce site is to choose and activate a payment gateway. Activating a payment gateway will add a form to your checkout page. Customers can use that form to provide their payment information. Here's what you should consider when selecting a payment gateway:

Business Location - Payment processors provide service to businesses located in certain countries. If your business is located in the USA, we recommend using GoDaddy Payments which is bundled with Managed WordPress hosting. If you aren't on Managed WordPress, you can install and activate the GoDaddy Payments plugin. You can use the country filter on WooCommerce's payment gateways page to search for options that are available in your country.

Cost - Payment processors often charge a percentage per transaction fee. There may also be monthly fees or a flat fee per transaction. Be sure that the pricing structure of your chosen payment processor suits the needs of your business. A percentage per transaction is a standard pricing model. A flat fee may be better if you primarily sell higher priced items.

Merchant account - If you have a merchant account for your business already, consider using a gateway from the same provider. That way, you won't have to transfer your payments between accounts.

Support for WooCommerce Subscriptions - If you plan on charging recurring fees, such as selling a coffee subscription or a club membership, using WooCommerce Subscriptions is the best option.
