Hi @Betting, thanks for posting.

I suggest disabling any plugins you currently have active, and then trying to add the new plugin.

You might also want to try manually uploading the plugin via FTP, and then trying to enable it.

Re: 500 internal error whenever installing new theme, plugin or updating wordpress

Hello,

I've been having the same problem for months and tried all the fixes I've found on this support boards and other websites (disabling plugins, renaming .htaccess, deleting and re-adding plugin folder). I cannot update wordpress itself, plugins, or themes from my wordpress site hosted in GoDaddy.

The only way I have been able to update wordpress is manually using ftp to upload new files. However, when I try plugin or theme update it is slow and eventually I get an error. Did not see anything useful in server log other than HTTP 500. Here are the errors I get from wordpress:

Plugin update error:

Update Failed: 500 Internal Server Error <!--[if lte IE 6]><![endif]--> Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Theme update error:

Update Failed: 500 Internal Server Error <!--[if lte IE 6]><![endif]--> Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Also, debug.log errors:

Also, my website is slow and PHP settings does not allow me to change memory limit or any of these values:

memory_limit = Default
max_execution_time  = Default
max_input_time = Default
post_max_size = Default
upload_max_filesize = Default
