cname for SmugMug cannot be removed, no edit option

I have changed my domain on my SmugMug hosting and didn't want my old domain to point to it anymore.  Within the GoDaddy DNS Management > Records, the cname for smugmug is present and does not have a pencil or edit function.

Any idea how I can get this removed?Annotation 2019-06-20 082846.png

@kreesonn

This typically happens when the domain is "linked" with a product (cPanel server for example) and is locked so that it doesn't take down the server - if you change / remove the subdomain from the product it should make it that it can be edited

Unfortunately I don't have any sub-domains

@kreesonn

When I said subdomain I just meant within the DNS record not the forwarding / subdomain section.

I guess i'm a little confused - I did a DIG on smugmug.com and it is using Amazon's DNS service

What domain did you send a screen capture of??

if it is for domains.smugmug.com if you look on the screen listing all your domains it probably says  hosted DNS - this is for when you have a product (like cpanel or Managed WordPress) with a domain that has DNS else where - GoDaddy still needs to have certain records in their DNS database, but they really are only for local purposes.

Re: cname for SmugMug cannot be removed, no edit option

Hi @kreesonn,

Welcome to the Community!

If you were originally directing your domain to SmugMug, you can change your DNS in order to direct it to another hosting provider, or hosting within your GoDaddy account. Your first step will be to change the nameservers on the domain back to default. That should clear the customer DNS you entered in the past. After making the change, you'll be able to update your DNS as desired to direct to a new website.

Re: cname for SmugMug cannot be removed, no edit option

You may have a template applied to the domain. Do you see anything showing at the top of the domain's DNS Management page that says you have a SmugMug template applied? If so, you simply need to remove it to remove the "read-only" CNAME entry.

Re: cname for SmugMug cannot be removed, no edit option

The CNAME was not editable.

The GoDaddy team removed a template that was applied.

I have since been able to remove the connection to SmugMug.

All good now.
